Fireside Chat: Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs)--What's Behind the Boom

Are you interested in learning about what's behind the boom in SPACs, raising billions to fund new companies? Join the Frank G. Zarb School of Business for a fireside chat covering special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs).

According to the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance, “SPACs are companies formed to raise capital in an initial public offering (“IPO”) with the purpose of using the proceeds to acquire one or more unspecified businesses or assets to be identified after the IPO. From the beginning of 2014 through November 30, 2017, almost 80 SPAC IPOs have closed, raising approximately $19 billion in gross proceeds.”

Dean Janet A. Lenaghan will moderate discussion with Douglas MaineSenior Advisor, Brown Brothers Harriman, and Zarb School of Business Dean's Advisory Board Member, and Jenn CalabreseManaging Member, Calabrese Consulting, LLC. Attend and hear about:

- The basics of an SPAC including the SPAC lifespan

- The differences between an SPAC and a “traditional IPO”

-  Opportunities and challenges as an investor of creating a new SPAC in the technology, media, and telecom sector
