The Continuum of Creative Arts Therapy Counseling Conference: Addressing the Needs of Varying Communities

Featured Keynote #1: Dr. David Gussak, PhD, ATR-BC This keynote will explore the benefits of art and art therapy in corrections settings through illustrations from established arts and art therapy programs, perspectives from inmates and correctional art therapists, and results from several published and ongoing research studies. Overall, it will address how art therapy helps to overcome personal and institutional barriers to mitigate mental illness, facilitate wellness and re-create new identities for the imprisoned. Featured Keynote #2: Lisa Donohue-Olivieri, MA, LPC, LADC, ATR-BC This keynote will provide a short introduction to the work of art therapists that have been responding to the needs of people impacted by mass shootings as well as other large-scale community traumas. This workshop helps art therapists who have an interest in providing community trauma therapy by identifying ways to prepare, begin, and sustain trauma-informed art therapy in an affected community.
