Venezuela: Crisis and Opportunity
The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program, the Department of Economics, and the Department of History present Venezuela: Crisis and Opportunity, a presentation by Dr. George Ciccariello-Maher. Dr. George Ciccariello-Maher is a political theorist and activist with extensive research experience inside of Venezuela. Among his recent publications are: We Created Chávez: A People's History of the Venezuelan Revolution (Duke U. Press, 2013), which is a "bottom-up" analysis of the bases of support for the Chavista movement; Building the Commune: Radical Democracy in Venezuela (Verso, 2016) that deals with the emergence and trials of new institutions of direct democracy and production in Venezuela; Decolonizing Dialectics (Duke U. Press, 2017), a theoretical intervention, tracing the role of three antidialectical thinkers--Sorel, Fanon, and Dussel--"that parallels that logic with the unfolding of the Venezuelan revolution.
