5th Annual MEISA Spring Conference

Students will get a chance to meet and network with music and entertainment professionals at Hofstra’s 5th annual MEISA Spring Conference, Thursday-Saturday, April 11-13, 2019.

Hofstra’s chapter of MEISA -- the Music & Entertainment Industry Student Association-- began presenting the conference in 2014 and this year  is partnering with music industry giant Korg USA to expand  the conference to three days and open registration to the public.

Highlights of the conference will include:

  • An artists’ showcase on April 11 presented with promoter Sofar Sounds Long Island at a secret location in Nassau County. The company’s signature is to transform everyday spaces - like a living room or retail shop - into captivating venues for secret, live shows. The location is revealed the day of the concert. Tickets are free for Hofstra students (quantity is limited to the first 50 students). Members of the general public may apply for tickets on Sofar Sounds Long Island’s website or by downloading the Sofar Sounds smartphone app.

  • On Friday, April 12, Professor Terry Tompkins, coordinator of Hofstra’s Music Business Program, will moderate the conference’s first panel on “The Rockstars Behind the Curtain.” Attendees will learn firsthand from entertainment lawyers, business managers, and booking agents about the behind-the-scenes support successful artists need. This panel will be followed by an alumni networking dinner.

  • Saturday, April 13, will begin with a morning meditation session with Suzanne Paulinski from The Rock/Star Advocate. Paulinski is a mindset coach for music industry professionals looking to gain clarity on their goals and find a better work/life balance. Four more panels focused on marketing, sync licensing, A&R, record production, record production and a Q&A with Jim Faith, founder of the Great South Bay Music Festival, are scheduled afterward.  There will be complimentary lunch for attendees, trade booths and opportunities to participate in mentorship sessions with panelists.
