Men's Lacrosse vs. Massachusetts

The Hofstra Men's Lacrosse team will play its first Colonial Athletic Association home game of the 2019 season this Saturday, April 6 when the Pride host the 17th-ranked Minutemen of the University of Massachusetts on Alumni Day at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.

So far this season Hofstra has wins over Lehigh (4-3), Utah (14-10), and St. John's (9-7), and losses to nationally-ranked Villanova (10-9 in OT), Georgetown (14-6), Ohio State (14-8) and Towson (10-9) as well as Stony Brook (11-10), Providence (11-10) and Rutgers (10-7).

The 17th-ranked Minutemen of Massachusetts are 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the CAA after their conference opening 10-9 victory over Drexel last Saturday. In that game, Chris Connolly tallied four goals and Jeff Trainor and Charlie O'Brien each added two goals to lead UMass. Sean Sconone posted 12 saves in the Minutemen cage. Drexel led 6-2 at halftime only to see UMass score eight time in the second, including the last three tallies, to post the victory.

The Minutemen, who are on a six-game winning streak, have wins over Harvard (12-9), Albany (14-8), NJIT (19-7), UMass Lowell (14-4), Utah (16-2), Brown (14-7) and Drexel (10-9). The UMass losses have come against Army (12-11 in OT), Ohio State (11-7) and Yale (12-11 in OT). The Minutemen average 12.80 goals per game and allow 8.10 per contest.

Hofstra and Massachusetts will be meeting for the 46th time on Saturday in a series that began in 1974. The Minutemen hold a 25-20 series lead. The two programs met twice-just a week apart-in Amherst last season with UMass winning both games, 14-6 on April 27 to close out the regular season, and 10-6 in the CAA Championship semifinals on May 3. The last Hofstra victory came during the 2017 regular season with the Pride recording a 15-8 victory.

After the UMass game, Hofstra returns to the road to face Delaware in a CAA game on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
