Men's Basketball vs. Monmouth

The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will play a pair of home games this week at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The week gets started with a Wednesday night tilt against Monmouth at 7 p.m. Hofstra (5-3) has won back-to-back games for the first time this season following a dominating 78-52 win over Kennesaw State on Friday. Junior Eli Pemberton scored 15 points in the game against the Owls and in the process became the 37th member of the 1,000-Point Club at Hofstra. He is the sixth to do so in Head Coach Joe Mihalich's six years at Hofstra.

Pemberton ranks second on the team in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 17.1 and 5.4, respectively. Graduate student Jacquil Taylor leads the Pride with 7.4 rebounds per outing. Senior Justin Wright-Foreman has continued his torrid start to his final campaign as he is averaging 26.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contest. His scoring total ranks fourth nationally.

Monmouth is 0-9 this season and most recently dropped a 65-43 decision at Bucknell on Saturday. Deion Hammond leads the Hawks with 10.9 points per game. Nick Rutherford has team-high averages of 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest.

Both Hofstra and Monmouth have faced Cal State Fullerton this season with the Pride capturing an 80-71 victory, while the Hawks fell by the score of 87-63.

Wednesday's game is the ninth all-time meeting between Hofstra and Monmouth with the Hawks holding a 6-2 lead in the series. Hofstra won last year's contest, 85-84, as Jalen Ray hit a last second shot to send the Pride home victorious. The first meeting between the teams occurred during the 1983-84 campaign with the Pride winning 77-43.
