Pete Coco Trio featuring Matt Wilson and Sullivan Fortner

Join Hofstra faculty member and jazz bassist Dr. Peter Coco will present a concert featuring fresh arrangements of compositions by some history’s greatest jazz bassists. The selections are from his forthcoming debut album titled, Lined With A Groove, and includes songs by jazz bass masters Ron Carter, Ray Brown, Charlie Haden, Milt Hinton, Paul Chambers, and many more.

Concert will feature Grammy-nominated drummer Matt Wilson, who has performed with a who’s-who of jazz greats including Joe Lovano, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz, Herbie Hancock, Chris Botti, Randy Brecker, and many more. Matt is one of today’s most celebrated drummers, universally recognized for his musical and melodic style and gifts as a band leader and composer.

On piano is extraordinary pianist Sullivan Fortner. Lauded as one of the top jazz pianists of his generation, Sullivan is recognized for his virtuosic technique and captivating performances. The winner of three prestigious awards - a Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellowship, the 2015 Cole Porter Fellowship from the American Pianists Association, and the 2016 Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists - Sullivan’s music embodies the essence of the blues and jazz as he connects music of all eras and genres through his improvisation. Sullivan has performed with Dianne Reeves, Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, John Scofield, and Cecile McLorin Salvant.

This will be the first public performance of Coco’s new music with his trio. It will be a CD pre-release party!

This concert replaces the Music 20 Guest Artist Series: ALBA Consort and Composer Leonard Lehrman concert for this date and time, which has been cancelled.
