Facilitating Difficult Dialogues on Systems of Power, Privilege and Oppression

Tomeka Robinson, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Rhetoric at Hofstra University, and Katrina Sims, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History at Hofstra University, are recipients of the Center for "Race," Culture and Social Justice Faculty Summer Research Grants 2018. This five stage research project includes narratives from students, faculty, and staff within the Hofstra community documenting micro- and macro-aggressions that have occurred within the confines of the Hofstra community, the recruitment of facilitators at Hofstra for small group discussions with administrators, faculty, staff, and students as well as surveys to gain a better understanding of identity and how group processes help people to define who they are.
