NPHW 2018: Strategic Alignment in a Time of Healthcare Transformation

Currently the US healthcare industry is changing to meet the current and future needs of an evolving patient population, changes in reimbursements, and a shift in the delivery of care. Health systems, hospitals, group practices, community hospitals, and insurance companies, and other institutions across the continuum of care are positioning themselves in the healthcare market to provide value in order to survive. In order for institutions to react to the changes in the market, they must strategically examine the value any partnership, affiliation, acquisition, and merger will add. This event will examine, from a strategic planning perspective, how health and health care leaders approach partnering with other organizations in order to survive and thrive in the current and future healthcare landscape. For instance, what drives the strategic decision-making process and how do firms evaluate the organizations, cultures, and operations or possible partners as well as the economic feasibility of a partnership. The provider-based strategy behind recent health care mergers and affiliations within New York state are given a particular focus; notably, the elements that stakeholders within the health care industry evaluate when selecting possible entities with which to affiliate or merge.
