Hofstra Men's Lacrosse vs. North Carolina

The Hofstra Men's Lacrosse team will return to action this Saturday, March 10 as the Pride face their third ranked team of the season when the eighth-ranked Tar Heels of North Carolina come to James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is noon. The Pride, who are 1-2 on the season, have been inactive from competition since February 27 when Hofstra posted a 14-2 victory at Long Island-rival Stony Brook. Hofstra, which has played sixth-ranked Ohio State and eighth-ranked Villanova earlier this season, erupted against the Seawolves of Stony Brook on Tuesday, taking a 5-1 lead at halftime and a 10-2 lead after three quarters despite being without two starting midfielders.

Pride sophomore Ryan Tierney recorded a career-high seven points and tied his career-high with five goals while adding two assists. Senior Dylan Alderman had a career-high five assists while equaling his career-high with six points in the contest. Junior Jimmy Yanes posted his second hat-trick of the season with three goals and one assist. Senior goalie Jack Concannon needed to make only four saves and freshman Jacob Coleman made one for the Pride as they got the first win of the year.

Hofstra outshot Stony Brook in the contest, 44-20 and also won the battles of the ground balls, 26-13 and face-offs, 16-for-20. Hofstra now leads the series with the Seawolves, 6-3.

On the season, the Pride is led in scoring by Tierney with seven goals and four assists. Alderman has three goals and five assists and Yanes has six goals and one assist. Concannon has a 5.70 goals against average with 28 saves and a .622 save percentage. Hofstra averages 7.67 goals per game and allows 6.0 goals per contest.

The Pride was scheduled to face nationally-ranked Georgetown last Saturday at Shuart Stadium. But the game was postponed to a later date, if possible, since the Hoyas were stranded on their bus on I-80 overnight Friday due to the Nor'easter storm that lashed the east coast.

The eighth-ranked Tar Heels of North Carolina are 6-1 on the season with wins over Lafayette (17-10), Furman (15-14 OT), Lehigh (12-11 OT), Johns Hopkins (13-11), Mercer (14-7) and St. John's (9-8), The Tar Heels only loss on the season came against Denver, 10-6 last Monday. UNC averages 12.29 goals per game and allows 10.14 goals per contest.

The Tar Heels are led in scoring by Chris Cloutier with 20 goals and four assists while William Perry has added 14 goals and five assists. Andy Matthews leads the team with 15 assists to go with three goals while Tanner Cook has 14 goals and two assists. Goalie Jack Pezzulla has started five of the seven games that he has played in and has posted a 9.64 goals against average with 40 saves and a .471 save percentage.

After the UNC game, Hofstra will continue with their three-game homestand to face the Hawks of Monmouth on Tuesday, March 13 at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
