Hofstra Baseball vs. Albany (DH)

The Hofstra University Baseball team will look to extend its winning streak when it hosts Albany in a three-game series at University Field this weekend. The Pride, which has won eight consecutive games, and the Great Danes will play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and a single game Sunday at noon.

The Pride (8-2) is coming off a weekend sweep at the UMBC Tournament that included a no-hitter against Mount St. Mary's in an 11-0 victory and a pair of wins versus UMBC. The no-hitter, a combined effort from John Rooney and Seamus Brazill, was the Pride's second of the season. Hofstra got strong offensive performances from a number of players including Teddy Cillis (.571, 1 HR, 4 RBIs), Mikey Riesner (.538, 3 2B, 4 RBIs), Vito Friscia (.429, 1 HR, 4 RBIs) and Daniel Page (.417, 1 HR, 3 RBIs).

Albany (5-4) took two of three games at Seattle University last weekend. Interestingly, the Great Danes have taken on a pair of Colonial Athletic Association teams already this season. Albany lost two of three at James Madison and won two of three at Towson. Travis Collins leads Albany with a .270 average and has two doubles and four RBIs. Connor Powers has a .260 average, three doubles and six RBIs. John Clayton has posted an 0-1 record with a 3.07 ERA. J.T. Genovese has not allowed a run in three appearances and has a 1-0 record and one save.

Hofstra is 8-6 all-time versus Albany. The teams met last season in a neutral site series in Salem, Virginia,  with Albany winning three close games (7-6, 4-3 and 3-1).

Following the weekend series, Hofstra will prepare to open CAA play at UNCW next weekend.
