Hofstra Wrestling vs. Air Force

The Hofstra Wrestling team will face another busy three-match slate this weekend when the Pride host the Falcons of Air Force on Friday, January 10 at 6 p.m., and the Huskies of Bloomsburg on Sunday, January 12 at 1 p.m. and the Bearcats of Binghamton in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association contest at 6 p.m. All three matches will be held at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Hofstra, currently 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the EIWA, is on a four-match winning streak following their three victories at the LIU Post Duals last Sunday. The Pride defeated Clarion, 25-18, EIWA-rival Columbia, 24-12 and American International, 56-0. Senior Michael Hughes (21-2) at 285 and sophomores Jacob Martin (7-10) at 125, Vinny Vespa (6-8) at 133 and Sage Heller (7-8) at 165 each posted two victories on the mat last Sunday to help the Hofstra cause.

The Pride continue to be led by Hughes, who is now just three victories away from the 100-win mark in his career. He is ranked seventh by Amateur Wrestling News, eighth by The Open Mat, and ninth by FloWrestling, InterMat and TrackWrestling.

Junior Nezar Haddad is 10-10 on the season at 197, red-shirt freshman Charlie Kane is 8-9 at 141, Heller is 7-8 at 165 and red-shirt junior Cory Damiana at 184 and Vespa at 133 are both 6-8.

Air Force is 4-1 on the season after three wins in the Borah Duals in Gunnison, Colorado last Saturday. The Falcons have also won four consecutive dual matches. The Huskies of Bloomsburg are 2-5 on the year with wins over George Mason and Davidson. The Bearcats of Binghamton enter the week with a 4-4 overall record and 1-0 in the EIWA.
