Reasoning Evening: Gerrymandering

How can you consistently control which party has a majority in a legislature? If you get to draw the boundaries for the districts, you can often give your party an advantage. Such specially designed districts are called gerrymanders. At this Reasoning Evening, we'll talk about how gerrymandering works and how to apply mathematical concepts to decide when legislative districts are fairly drawn.

Professor Johanna Franklin (Mathematics) will lead the discussion. All students and factuly are welcome.

Reasoning Evenings are hosted by Hofstra's Minor in Scientific Reasoning and Data Analysis.

Discussion will be at Heger Hall, First Floor Lounge
