Hofstra Symphony Orchestra: Music and the Great War

In commemoration of the WWI Centenary and Veterans Day Weekend, the Hofstra Cultural Center and the Department of Music present “Music and the Great War” with the Hofstra Symphony Orchestra, directed by Professor Adam Glaser on Friday, November 10, at 8 p.m. This concert to honor our veterans will take place at Hofstra’s Toni and Martin Sosnoff Theater at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus.

The evening includes works by WWI veterans Butterworth, Hindemith, Ravel and Vaughan Williams, as well as Elgar, Holst, and Parry. There will be special performances by the Hofstra Chamber Orchestra, Professor Donna Balson (soprano), Professor Sally Charnow (narrator and dramatic reading), Professor Marilyn Lehman (piano), Professor Gregory Mercer (tenor), and Professor Cindy Rosenthal (dramatic reading).

Funding for the concert has been provided by the Joseph G. Astman Family Fund for the Hofstra Cultural Center. The concert is being presented as part of Hofstra’s commemoration of events titled “The Great War -- A Hundred Years On.”

Tickets: Tickets are $10 and $8 for senior citizens or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive two free ticks upon presentation of a current HofstraCard. For tickets, please call the Playhouse Box Office at 516-463-6644  (Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-3:45 p.m.). Tickets may also be purchased online. If seats are still available the day of the performance, tickets will be sold at the Playhouse Box Office starting 90 minutes prior to show time.


Tickets on sale beginning August 28.

Please be aware, when attending events during the school year, when classes are in session, parking is often limited on South Campus to faculty and students.
