Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions and the Work of the Student Organization La TIIA

Department of Romance Languages and Literatures celebrates Professor Valeria Luiselli’s new book, Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions and the work of the student organization La TIIA (Teenage Immigrant Integration Association). Structured around the forty questions Professor Luiselli translates and asks undocumented Latin American children facing deportation, Tell Me How It Ends (an expansion of her 2016 Freeman’s essay of the same name) humanizes these young migrants and highlights the contradiction between the idea of America as a fiction for immigrants and the reality of racism and fear--both here and back home.

The Teenage Immigrant Integration Association (TIIA) is an organization run by a group of volunteer Hofstra students that provides support to recently-arrived teenage refugees from Central America during their challenging integration process into the USA. TIIA gives support to these high school students, who currently reside in the surrounding Hofstra area, through one-on-one English classes, college preparatory assistance, soccer games, and social get-togethers.
