Walt Whitman Meets the Great American Songbook

In Walt Whitman Meets the Great American Songbook, student musicians join WSC professor and spoken word performer Paul Kirpal Gordon in celebrating our national poet's love of democracy, diversity and his hometown -- from Hempstead to Manhattan. The septet of trumpet, tenor sax, cello, guitar, bass and drums play the songs of George Gershwin, Charlie Parker, Harold Arlen and Antonio Carlos Jobim, among others, to sections of "Song of Myself," "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry," and "I Sing the Body Electric." A duet of student dancers and an international host of readers of Whitman in their native languages will also be featured.
