Invisible Wars: Indigenous Religion, Resistance, and Dissent in Colonial Mexico

Speaker Dr. David Tavárez, associate professor and chair of anthropology at Vassar College, discusses his research on transatlantic/global colonial intellectual exchanges. In this first of two lectures on Colonial Mexico he also explores evangelization and language policies, writing, and power in the public sphere, as well as in Nahua and Zapotec societies. He is the author of  The Invisible War: Indigenous Devotions, Discipline, and Dissent in Colonial Mexico (Stanford University Press, 2011).
