New Student Summer Orientation -- Week 2

Your Hofstra journey begins with New Student Orientation - an on-campus, three-day, two-night program where all incoming first-year students get their first glimpse of life at Hofstra. Note: Transfer students are offered a one-day orientation experience and should visit the Transfer Orientation webpage for more information about their specific program.

Experience suggests that students who actively participate in an orientation program excel academically and socially more often than those who do not take advantage of such programs. Our orientation program will prepare you for success at Hofstra by introducing you to Hofstra’s curriculum and campus resources; providing opportunities for you to engage with other new students, as well as Hofstra faculty, staff, and orientation leaders; and answering any questions you may have. First-year students also register for fall classes at New Student Orientation. Attendance at orientation is required.

Online registration for New Student Orientation will begin in mid-January through the Hofstra portal. You will need your Hofstra ID and password to sign up. Since dates fill quickly, you must choose three sessions that work for you. Once we receive your request, we will send an email confirmation to your Hofstra Pride email account; the confirmation email will include important information and instructions on taking your foreign language and mathematics assessments online prior to orientation.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Hofstra Pride!

New Student Summer Orientation is only for new students and only if they register.

Hofstra University is planning our summer orientation for incoming first-year students as an on-campus, three-day, two-night program for the following sessions: Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9. Attending orientation in-person supports students in learning campus, engaging with future classmates, and enjoying the fun activities that take place each orientation. Week 7 will be virtual and online, and is intended for incoming students who have considerations due to the current public health concerns. We ask that students check their Hofstra email address as we will be sending updates about both types of sessions as information becomes available including arrival times, COVID test results, possible vaccination requirements, and technology requirements for the virtual sessions.

Check-in for New Student Orientation is a multi-step process. Please arrive at 8:30 a.m. but before 10 a.m. on Tuesdays. All students and parents must proceed to the health tent for verification of health records. Those students who cannot provide required documentation for upload must take an on-site rapid test for COVID and may only proceed to NSO check in at the Netherlands Residence Halls Complex once cleared by the health staff. Students who are not cleared by the health staff may not participate in the program. We will provide update information about this process in a email sent to your Hofstra email address.

Hofstra University is pleased to have the public join us for some of our on-campus events, which are held for the benefit of our students. Please be aware, when attending events during the school year, when classes are in session, parking is often limited on South Campus to faculty and students. There is additional parking available on North Campus, approximately a 10-minute walk from Adams Playhouse, through the Student Center and over the unispan. Thank you for your cooperation.
