Living with Dialysis: Stories from Patients
The Osler Society of The Zucker School of Medicine and the Northwell Health Division of Nephrology present Living with Dialysis: Stories from Patients. Join us as Zucker School of Medicine students and Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing’s nurse practitioner students read narratives about the lives of dialysis patients, caregivers, and dialysis teammates at an in-center hemodialysis unit. These stories, which were collected by the two student groups as part of the TELL ME MORE® program, will be paired with photographs and other imagery by Dr. Lionel Mailloux, and artist/photographer, Caroline Kaplowitz, the wife and caregiver of a dialysis patient. Monologues written by Julie Spector, Hofstra University Drama and English double major.
A Q&A, featuring patients, their caregivers, and family members; Lionel Mailloux, MD, clinical professor of medicine emeritus, Zucker School of Medicine, Division of Kidney Diseases and Hypertension, American Society of Hypertension --specialist in clinical hypertension; and Stephanie Maza, LMSW, and Susan Singer, LMSW, renal social workers at Northwell Health’s DaVita Dialysis Center. Special thanks go to all of the personnel at the dialysis center.
