Phi Beta Kappa Induction Ceremony (Virtual)

The Hofstra community is invited to watch as the Omega of New York Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Hofstra University inducts new members at a virtual spring ceremony on Monday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. Watch the ceremony on YouTube

Phi Beta Kappa is considered America’s most prestigious honor society, with the top 10 percent of liberal arts and science graduates invited to join.

To be considered for election, a student must attain a high GPA while taking broad and rigorous coursework in the liberal arts and sciences. There is no fixed GPA required, nor is a high GPA alone sufficient for election. In making its decision, the chapter examines a student’s entire transcript.

This year’s ceremony will feature remarks from Frederick M. Lawrence, secretary and CEO of the Phi Beta Kappa Society; Victoria Shadle, Hofstra Phi Beta Kappa 2015; and Benjamin Rifkin, Dean, Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Professor of Russian. The program also features the presentation of the Waysek Award and Graduate Scholarship by Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Margaret Abraham; a musical performance by Christopher Morrongiello; and the announcement of honorary members by Professor Scott Harshbarger.
