Men's Basketball vs. Towson

The Hofstra men's basketball team will look to capture its second straight Colonial Athletic Association regular season title on Thursday when the Pride hosts Towson. Hofstra is currently in the midst of an eight-game win streak.

The Pride has already clinched at least a share of the regular season title and one more win or one more William & Mary loss will give Hofstra sole possession of the regular season title. Hofstra is looking to become only the sixth team in CAA history (since 1982-83) to win back-to-back regular season titles (without sharing either title). They would be the first since Virginia Commonwealth did it three times from 2006-07 to 2008-09.

Tip-off from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Pride improved to 22-7 and 13-3 in league action with a 78-62 win over Delaware on Saturday. Seniors Desure Buie and Eli Pemberton were outstanding with 27 and 25 points, respectively. Buie added nine assists and six rebounds, while Pemberton posted nine rebounds in the contest. Buie leads the team in scoring (18.7), assists (166), and steals (62) this year, while Pemberton is second on the squad in scoring with 16.7 per contest. Sophomore Isaac Kante is tops on the team in rebounding (7.5), while ranking fourth in scoring (11.4). Junior Tareq Coburn is fifth in scoring (10.6) and second in rebounding (5.8).

Towson is 17-12 and 10-6 in the league following an 84-71 win over Elon on Saturday. The Tigers have won four of their last five games. Brian Fobbs leads Towson with 15.9 points per game and is also averaging 4.8 rebounds per outing. Allen Betrand ranks second in scoring at 14.2 per clip. Jakigh leads the Tigers with 62 assists, while Dennis Tunstall is tops on the team with 30 steals.

The Pride won this season's earlier meeting, 75-67, back on December 30. Buie had 35 points, six assists, and six rebounds in the game, while Coburn added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Hofstra is 44-26 all-time against Towson and the Pride has won five straight and eight of the last 10 in the series. The Hofstra/Towson series, which began with an 86-71 Pride victory during the 1982-83 season, is the Pride's third-most common series in program history. The 70 all-time meetings ranks only behind Delaware (93) and Drexel (87).
