2019 Lives in Public Policy and Public Service Address
What is Public Service? From Political Activism to Elected Office with New York State Senator Jessica Ramos (District 13). The Lives in Public Policy and Public Service lecture series of the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs invites speakers each academic year to share their journey into public service with faculty and students. The lecture series seeks to engage students who are keenly interested in pursuing their passion for public service and policymaking.
Presented by the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs and the Public Policy and Public Service Program in conjunction with the State and Local Politics Lecture Series.
Co-sponsored by Hofstra Cultural Center, the Office of University Relations, and the Center for Civic Engagement.
Day of Dialogue XVII: Conflict, Climate, and the Crisis of Forced Migration
Through presentations, panels, and workshops, the Hofstra community will examine the dramatic realities of people around the world who are being forced to move because of war and conflict or the growing threat of climate change. These crises and vulnerabilities lead to many forms of exploitation, including the formidable increase in human trafficking. The Day of Dialogue events will examine the connections between war and conflict, environmental catastrophe, and the impact on people who are displaced, vulnerable, and unprotected. It will also explore ways in which these challenges can be addressed through awareness and collective action. The day will feature keynote speaker William D. Hartung, director of the Arms and Security Project at the Center for International Policy and the author of Prophets of War: Lockheed Martin and the Making of the Military-Industrial Complex.
This all-day annual event presented by Hofstra's Center for Civic Engagement serves as an important forum for community engagement and participation. Students, faculty and community members are welcome.
