International Scholars Forum: Critical Literacies and 21st Century Youth Comments
The Literacy Studies Program of the Department of Teaching, Literacy, and Leadership presents an International Scholars Forum: Critical Literacies and 21st Century Youth: Pedagogies of Access, Dissent, and Liberation.
Speaker: Dr. Ernest Morell, Director for the Institute of Urban and Minority Education (IUME) and Professor of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. He is also the Vice President of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and will assume the presidency in 2013.
Dr. Morrell will outline a core set of principles for critical, culturally relevant, and academically rigorous 21st century literacy instruction.
Faculty and students are invited to participate in the Fall 2012 International Scholar's Forum. The forum will take place on Friday, November 30, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday, December 1st, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. There is a special $25 fee for Hofstra students for the two day seminar, including refreshments, continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday.
