Sports Safety Conference Comments
The Long Island Youth Safety Coalition is pleased to present a timely conference on sports safety. Sports is a marvelous part of youth development with a bounty of benefits. However, there is a dark side with a host of new dangers to guard against. We not only face the world of physical harm but also a range of social dangers including criminal assaults, bullying, sexual abuse, corruption, discrimination, and substance abuse. All of these pose not only great harm to our youth but considerable legal trouble to all who manage sports. District Attorney Kathleen M. Rice and our Coalition would like to engage our schools, youth agencies, and all who host sports programs, to work with us. We have gathered an array of talented presenters, workshops, and resources of practical value on all of these problems as well as gender issues, nutrition, medical perspectives, legalities, and concussions.
The Coalition offers periodic island wide forums on critical topics and provides a forum for discussions and information exchange through the LI Youth Safety Listserv. If you are interested in joining or obtaining more information, contact the Nassau County District Attorney’s Community Affairs office at (516) 571-1090, René.fiechter@nassauda.org
