Issues in Judaism Lecture Series: The Jews of Huettenberg, Germany Comments
The Hofstra Cultural Center and Hofstra Hillel's Issues in Judaism Lecture Series Fall 2012 presents a four-part lectures series titled “History and Culture: Iran Italy Germany America.”
The third lecture, on Thursday, November 15, will be:
"The Jews of Huettenberg, Germany: Life and Times in the Rural State of Hessen"
Speaker: Dr. Herbert D. Rosenbaum
Professor Emeritus of Political Science
Hofstra University
"The unexpected discoveries by present-day amateur archivists of the now-vanished people and communities of Jews in their rural villages of Hessen, Germany, has lead them to compose comprehensive accounts of individuals and families and their destinies. Descriptions in the form of multi-generational family trees and of books are now rich sources of knowledge for survivors scattered across the world."
A question and answer period will follow each lecture. Lectures take place at the Guthart Cultural Center Theater, Axinn Library, First Floor, South Campus.
Cost:
$22 general public
