Earth Day: IDEAS presents The New Normal? “Natural” Disasters, Population, and Climate Comments

Changes in the Earth's global climate system are creating a New Normal characterized by increasingly more extreme weather events such as storms and droughts, as well as accelerating sea level rise. The challenges posed by the New Normal are particularly relevant to the large populations living in the urban areas of the East Coast. Join Dr. Burrell Montz, Professor, Geography, Planning, and Environment, East Carolina University, for an eye-opening analysis of the increasing vulnerability of populous regions to the consequences of climate change. Dr. Montz is one of the leading researchers in the field of natural hazard planning and policy.
