Film Screening: 56 UP by Michael Apted
The Radio, Television, Film Department’s MFA in Documentary Studies in Production Program is hosting the screening of 56 Up, the latest in the landmark series by acclaimed director Michael Apted that began its journey in 1964 with 7 Up when a group of British 7-year-olds were interviewed about their lives and dreams. Apted returned to film the same subjects every seven years, tracking their ups and downs. In 56 Up, he finds the group settling into middle age and surprisingly upbeat. Through marriage and childbirth, poverty and illness, the kids have come to terms with both hope and disappointment.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with P.O.V. representative Aubrey Gallegos. The “Up” series is the winner of a 2012 George Foster Peabody Award.
