OcTubaFest Comments

Tuba and Euphonium students of Professor Michael Salzman will perform original works and transcriptions in Hofstra's annual celebration of the tuba, Octubafest 2013.  Works by Bach, Mozart, Frackenpohl, Horovitz, Lebedev, Wilder and Arban.  The Hofstra Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble will also perform.  More than 250 Octubafest celebrations will take place on college campuses all over the country this month.  Started in 1972 by Professor Salzman's teacher and mentor, the late Harvey Phillips, the OcTubaFest is designed as an opportunity to showcase the beautiful sounds of this often underestimated instrument.  A Hofstra tradition since 1994.  Admission is free.
