Great Writers, Great Readings Presents Colum McCann Comments

Hofstra University’s Department of English and the M.F.A. in Creative Writing present the ninth annual Great Writers, Great Readings Series at Hofstra.

Colum McCann is the author of five novels and two collections of short stories. His most recent novel, "Let the Great World Spin," became a best-seller on four continents and won worldwide acclaim, including the 2009 National Book Award in the United States, the 2010 Best Foreign Novel Award in China, the 2011 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, and a literary award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Mr. McCann’s fiction has been published in more than 30 languages and has appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, Paris Review, Granta, The Atlantic Monthly, GQ, Bomb and other places. Born in Ireland, he is a member of the Irish Academy and Aosdána, and was awarded a chevalier des arts et lettres by the French government in fall 2009. The film rights for "Let the Great World Spin" were bought by J.J Abrams, the highly acclaimed director and creator of Lost, and Mr. McCann is currently adapting the screenplay, along with Abrams.
 
This event will take place in the Guthart Cultural Center Theater, located on the 1st Floor of Axinn Library.
 
All Great Writers, Great Readings events are free and open to the public.
 

Great Writers, Great Readings was launched by Hofstra University in recognition of the importance of writing and literature in a liberal arts education. In addition to a baccalaureate degree in English, Hofstra currently offers an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and an M.A. in English. The program's faculty include playwright Erik Brogger, author Julia Markus and two Guggenheim Fellows: novelist Martha McPhee and poet Phillis Levin.

Parking Notice

Please be aware, when attending events during the school year, when classes are in session, parking is often limited on South Campus to faculty and students. There is additional parking available on North Campus, approximately a 10-minute walk from Adams Playhouse, through the Student Center and over the unispan. Thank you for your cooperation.
