Irish Studies Program presents Reel Ireland: Some Mother’s Son Comments

Written and directed by Irish filmmaker Terry George, co-written by Jim Sheridan, and starring Helen Mirren and Fionnula Flanagan. The film uses the 1981 hunger strikes by Republican prisoners to examine the hardships, determined efforts, and dilemmas faced by mothers of children engaged in political struggle. Discussion to be facilitated by Prof. Maggie Burke.

The Hofstra University Irish Studies Program presents The Reel Ireland, a series of Irish films followed by discussion. The film, Some Mother's Son will be explored on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
