Hofstra University

Cloud 9 presented by the Department of Drama and Dance Comments

Cloud 9, a two-act comedy by Caryl Churchill, will be presented by the Hofstra University Department of Drama and Dance from Friday, November 8 to Sunday, November 17. With Act I set in 1879 British Colonial Africa and Act II set in a London park 1979, the play focuses on themes of power and authority and how they have affected sex and relationships through the ages. Act I uses the stereotypes of the Victorian Era to appeal to our sense of fun, while magnifying the misogyny and racism of the period.  Act II takes place a century later, but for the characters, only twenty-five years have passed as they continue their struggle toward self-awareness and sexual independence.

Cloud 9 will be directed by Chris Dippel.
