Music By and For Students presented by Long Island Composers Alliance
2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Music By and For Students. This concert features original music composed by students of Long Island and will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fortunoff Theater located in Monroe Lecture Center, South Campus. Each year since 1973, the Long Island Composers Alliance has presented this concert which has become one of its most successful and widely-attended programs. Works to be performed are selected by composer members of LICA.
In addition to the performance, a $50 cash award will be presented to the student composers in three age categories. These categories will be approximately (1) a composer 11 or under, (2) a composer between 12 and 14, and (3) a composer above 15. The works will be judged by the LICA Program Committee and the award winners will also perform their works at LICA’s upcoming concert at 2 p.m. on June 9 at the South Huntington Library. Many winners of these awards have gone on to careers in music composition, performance, and education. These awards are given in memory of Arline Diamond, whose compositions and students had been a part of music on Long Island for many years and whose work with the Long Island Composers Alliance and many other musical organizations was so vital.
