Spring Break Program: Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) / Underwater Archaeology Program Comments

Did you ever dream of being on an expedition with Dr. Robert Ballard? With our new program, students can capture some of this magic right here at home.

Students will use Hofstra's top-notch facilities, including their Olympic sized pool, while being taught by experts from Nassau BOCES. Time will be split between the classroom and the pool, where students will design and build a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and learn about methods in underwater archeology.

The course will begin with an introduction to the history of marine exploration. Then, as part of a team, they will design and build an underwater ROV and test their designs in the water. Students will also have the opportunity to work with a marine archeologist and participate in an antique "helmet dive" in Hofstra's pool.

Note: Students should bring swim suits for days 2 and 4.

For students grades 5-10.
