Hofstra Softball vs. Towson (doubleheader)
As a result of heavy rain that hit the area Friday night and Saturday morning, Hofstra Softball's doubleheader with Towson on Saturday at Bill Edwards Stadium has been cancelled. The Pride and the Tigers will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Sunday at Bill Edwards Stadium.
The Pride (10-13, 1-2 CAA) dropped a midweek matchup to Rutgers, 11-5, at home on Wednesday. Junior Brielle Pietrafesa sent a two-run blast over the left-field fence in the loss, marking her second straight game with a home run. She was 2-for-4 on the day with two RBIs to match classmate Kaitlyne Musa, who hit a two-run double and has posted three RBIs over the past two games. Junior Nikki Michalowski was 2-for-3 against the Scarlet Knights.
Towson (11-16, 1-2 CAA) split a doubleheader with George Mason on Wednesday after going 1-2 against Delaware in the conference-opening series last weekend. The Tigers toppled the Blue Hens, 12-3, in the first game, before falling, 5-4 and 4-0.
Daria Edwards holds Towson's best average at .337, with Shelby Stracher next at .324. Stracher's three home runs are tied for the team lead with Holiday Cahill and Nicole Stockinger, while Kendyll Scott tops the squad with 19 RBIs.
Megan Dejter (4-9) has seen the most work in the circle for the Tigers with a 4.28 ERA and striking out 43 in 99.1 innings pitched. Julie Smith-Harrington (7-7) holds a 3.79 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 72.0 innings pitched.
The Pride holds a 67-18 advantage in the all-time series with the Tigers, though Towson took two of three from Hofstra last season.
The series with the Tigers will conclude a seven-game homestand for the Pride, as Hofstra heads to Storrs, Connecticut, on April 5 or a doubleheader with Connecticut.
